Solo and Ensemble Results

Montpelier High School showed EXTREMELY well yesterday at Solo and Ensemble contest.  All Montpelier solos and ensembles earned either a first division (I) superior rating or a second division (II) excellent rating.

Here are the details of how we fared:
Lita Banks (Class C)– Soprano Solo – II
Katie Layman (Class B)– Alto Solo – I
Gretchen Weger (Class A)– Soprano Solo – I
Katelynn York (Class B)– Soprano Solo – I
Locomotion (Class B) – Chamber Ensemble – I
Student (Grade) – Instrument  – Results (Class)
Kaley Adams, 11 – Alto Sax - II (A)
Martine Ortega, 10 - Alto Sax – I (B)
Gretchen Weger, 12 – Trombone – I (B)
Kristina Wheeler, 12 – Piccolo - I (B)
Kristina Wheeler, 12 – Flute – II (B)
Montpelier Saxophone Trio (Kaley Adams, Martine Ortega, Cody Bolen) – I (B)

We have a great deal to be proud of; many schools did not fare anywhere nearly as well and this is the best showing Montpelier has had in three years!

  1. As a proud Mom I have to add that Gretchen Weger also performed a Class A piano solo and received and Excellent (II)rating!
For anyone who does not know about the annual OMEA adjudicated event...students from all over northwest Ohio come together and perform as soloists and ensemble members in front of a judge and room full of spectators. Talk about putting yourself out there! The judge critiques all aspects of the student's performance and gives constructive feedback as well as a rating. Soloists are also required to perform scales (judges selection) to further test their technical skills. The rating scale is 1-V, one being a superior performance, II is excellent, III is good, IV is acceptable and V is poor. The classifications are A,B and C with the most difficult class being A, which is actually college level literature. This event is strictly voluntary and the students work for months to prepare the pieces.
