Community Comments - Levy

The Board of Education has to put on a levy that is winnable, and I believe that this is our best option to win, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s fair or equitable.
Dr. Jamie Grime

This really shows what the goal is here, "come up with a taxation plan which will pass, because the people required to PAY the tax is a minority of the voters who come out to vote".
Since when is getting a new tax jammed down our throats "winning" ?? If this is the goal, why don't we put a 10% tax on every income over $50,000 on the ballot ?? That would pass in a heartbeat. And the union members who all shot down issue 2 could share the "love" that defeat brought the district when it lost the savings incorporated in issue 2.

Thank you Mr. Danielson for sharing your thoughts.

On November 8, 2011, community members were essentially asked to give the Montpelier Exempted Village Schools and School Board Members direction - maintain current services made possible by additional funding or continue to decrease expenses (and services) without additional funds.

Our goal is to provide our students the best possible education and to operate a school that is the pride of our community.

This link will provide information on why there is a need for a levy: Levy Information  This link also includes information on the type of tax/levy options that are available.

The school will "win" when the school's operating budget can provide the services the children need and the community members want (ideal class size, competitive sports program, bussing, well-maintained facilities, etc).

Respectfully,
Gail Dick
